An Orthodontist is a dentist who specialises in straightening teeth. They use braces to do this. Materials and techniques have improved from when the only brace offered to patients were the nasty metal braces. Now the popular types of braces are Clear Braces. These are more comfortable and actually work quicker!

Patients prefer Clear Braces now rather than the metal ones as they are more cosmetically pleasing and can be removed to eat and drink or for special occasions. They must be worn for at least 20 hours a day. Worn any less then that then it may take longer.

The whole process of straightening your is easy. First we take impressions of your mouth and x-rays. These are sent to the laboratory where your braces will be made. If you are having Clearstep then a report is collated which tells you how long and how many stages it will take for your teeth to straighten. Your braces are then sent to us which we give you in stages.

It may take a while for you to get used to your brace as it is something new to your mouth. It may feel slightly uncomfortable too but you will get used to it. You may find that your speech is affected and that you salivate more but this should return to normal after a few weeks. Each brace alters your teeth to a specific point. Then we give you the next brace to move your teeth to the next stage. Once your teeth have moved to the correct position a fixed retainer is advised as over time our teeth will start to move back into their original position. This involves a new impression being taken and a splint being made that gets attached to the inside if the teeth that have been straightened. It is not visible and no body knows it is there.
