Top Tips for Sensitive Teeth Having sensitive teeth can be a real pain. The sudden pain is caused by the disturbance on the nerve endings of your teeth. There are many factors that may lead to tooth sensitivity such as brushing too hard, gum recession, clenching or grinding your teeth or something as simple as your age!

• See your Cosmetic dentist, Essex first. They might be able to seal the sensitive area with a fluoride gel which can be placed on the teeth and left for a few hours to gain the full effect. Also any roots exposed can be sealed with a fluoride releasing filling material.

 

• Brushing hard can damage the gums and make them recede, exposing the sensitive root surface causing sensitivity. Change your toothbrush to one with soft bristles and switch to a toothpaste formulated especially for sensitive teeth. Also use a mouthwash containing Fluoride to strengthen the teeth. • After brushing your teeth at night using a clean finger to smooth Sensodyne toothpaste over your teeth and leave on overnight. Brush as normal in the morning. This will help to lessen the sensitivity.

 

• Try to avoid things that might trigger the pain such as hot or cold foods like ice cream and coffee, sour foods such as lemons and acidic foods such as wine and grapefruit juice. These commonly cause problems for people with sensitive teeth.

 

• Try to cut down on drinking acidic juices or fizzy drinks. Frequent consumption of these drinks dissolves the hard enamel and the sensitive dentine is exposed.
