Types Of Toothache
There are many types of toothache, some of which are explained below:
- Gum Disease – This can cause pain in the gums and teeth, bleeding gums and abscesses.
- Pulpitis – This is when the nerve inside the tooth becomes inflamed. This can be from trauma, infection or decay.
- Tooth Abscess – Can cause a lot of pain and swelling to face and or gums. Abscesses form from bacteria from the gum or nerve of the tooth. If untreated it will cause tooth loss.
- Sensitivity – A very common toothache. You can get sensitive teeth if your gums have receded, if enamel has chipped or worn away or if your fillings are deteriorating.
- Wisdom Teeth – Can cause pain in jaw and gums when erupting. Sometimes this is ok to leave, but sometimes you may need treatment.
- Post Operative Pain – Certain dental procedures can cause very temporary sensitivity or pain for a short time. For example; after a tooth extraction you may have a sore gum, after root canal treatment the tooth may feel a little tender and after a deep filling you may get sensitivity for a few days. Theses are all very temporary and will heal and feel better.
