Tooth Extraction

If your tooth is so badly damaged, decayed or loose due to gum disease, you may need a tooth extraction.

Do I Need a Tooth Extraction?

You may need a tooth extraction if:

  • You have severe gum disease (periodontal disease) – gum disease can loosen teeth which cannot then be saved.
  • Severe decay, if the tooth is un restorable i.e. not enough tooth or root left to restore, you may need an extraction
  • Severe crowding – sometimes as part of orthodontic treatment, to create space, you may need teeth extracted
  • Impacted wisdom teeth – if your wisdom teeth are impacted and causing problems you may need tooth extraction
  • Severe tooth abscess – if root canal treatment cannot be done, then you may need an extraction.
Does Tooth Extraction Hurt?

Not at all, the tooth will be made numb with local anaesthetic.  You will feel no pain during the treatment.

What Happens After Tooth Extraction?

You may be a little sore for a few days and have to be careful.  Once healed you can replace the tooth or teeth you lost.

Teeth can be replaced by:

  • Dental implants
  • Dentures
  • Dental bridges
