Teeth Whitening FAQ
What is Zoom Teeth Whitening?
This is done in office. A procedure that takes about 1 hour, where teeth whitening gel is placed on the teeth and the special ‘zoom’ laser light is placed near your teeth to catalyse the reaction so that is much quicker and you have lovely white teeth in an hour!
What is Home Teeth Whitening?
Home teeth whitening is when special impressions are taken of your teeth and custom trays are made into which teeth whitening gel is placed and worn for about one hour a day. Usually within 2 weeks you have a whiter smile.
To achieve the best teeth whitening result a combination of laser and home whitening is recommended.
Is Teeth whitening safe?
Teeth whitening has been researched for over 20 years and there are no adverse reactions to it.
Can Teeth whitening make your teeth sensitive?
Some people may experience transient sensitivity while they are teeth whitening but this is only temporary and returns back to normal. Sensitive toothpaste can help with this.
Can anyone have teeth whitening?
Anyone can have teeth whitening unless you are pregnant or allergic to the whitening gel. If you have all dental crowns, bridges or veneers teeth whitening is not suitable for you as porcelain will not whiten with teeth whitening.
How does teeth whitening work?
The ‘active ingredient’ in the product is usually hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide. As the active ingredient is broken down, oxygen releases into the enamel on the teeth and the tooth colour is made naturally lighter.
Who can do teeth whitening?
The most important factor when considering teeth whitening is to make sure you go to a qualified cosmetic dentist, who can appropriately supervise your teeth whitening procedure. Avoid beauty salon teeth whitening if there is no dentist there.
