FAQs - Smile makeover

What is a smile makeover?

A smile makeover is when the appearance of the teeth and gums are cosmetically improved. This will look better and improve health and function also.

What is a Veneer?

Veneers are thin porcelain laminates. Veneers are custom made to bond over the front visible surface of teeth, like a false fingernail fits over a nail. Veneers are made from very strong and aesthetic porcelain.

Why might I have a Veneer?
Veneers are an ideal way of treating discoloured teeth, closing gaps between teeth, or repairing chips and cracks. Veneers can change the shape of your teeth so that unsightly teeth can look great.
What is the procedure for having Veneers?

First the teeth will be prepared, usually about the same thickness as the veneer will be. An impression is taken by the dentist and sent to a dental technician for the veneer to be made out of porcelain in the laboratory. Temporary veneer/s will be placed on your teeth. The veneer is then bonded to the tooth to form a strong and natural-looking tooth. Porcelain veneers usually take 2 visits. Sometimes ‘composite’ material is used instead of porcelain. Composite veneers can be completed in one visit and involve bonding tooth-coloured filling material to the front of the tooth. Although these veneers are slightly more prone to staining and have a shorter life, they are easily replaced. Porcelain veneers are the material of choice.

What is Cosmetic Contouring?

Cosmetic contouring can be used to improve the appearance of teeth. It is ideal if you have slightly crowded teeth or uneven teeth. However, in contouring the teeth a small amount of enamel would be lost. Contouring can also be used to improve the shape and appearance of your gums.
