Common Myths Regarding Teeth Implants Treatment
There are many myths regarding Teeth Implants. Many people hear horror stories that put them off for life but it’s not necessarily what happens. The most common myths are:
1. It hurts!
Not true. Dental Implants Placement is done under a local anaesthetic and we make sure you are completely numb before we start treatment. For our more nervous patients we offer sedation. This has nothing to do with controlling pain; it just helps to relax you making our job easier. No pain will be felt during placement but your gum may be sore for a few days after.
2. It takes time!
Again not true. Dental Implants placement is quick and easy. Obviously the more implants you have the longer it will take. Its actually takes more time for your bone to heal around the implant. During this time though we can make something temporary i.e. a denture to fill the gap where the teeth implants are placed.
3. I don’t have enough bone so I can’t have a Dental Implants!
If you don’t have enough bone then bone can be placed. It takes a little longer for the teeth Implants procedure to be completed but at least Teeth Implants can be placed successfully.
4. I’m on a lot of medication so I can’t have Teeth Implants!
Everyone can have Dental Implants whether you are on medication or not. The only exception is if you bleed excessively or an allergy to titanium.
5. I will have a gap whilst the Dental Implant is healing!
No. We can make something temporary to fill the gap during the healing period. If you already have a denture we can alter it so it can still be worn.
6. It’s an operation and I need to be sedated!
Although placed under sterile conditions it is not an operation. Treatment is done at the dental practice and is done under a local anaesthetic. For our more nervous patients we do offer sedation but placement is so quick it’s not really necessary.
7 Dental Implants are just for missing teeth.
Teeth Implants are also used for Cosmetic Dentistry. They are also used to stabilise dentures. Patient with full dentures know how much they move around and how annoying it can be. We can stabilise the dentures with Dental Implants making it more comfortable for the patient.
