Dental Implants take approximately 3 months to complete.  It’s not the Teeth Implants placement that takes time, its waiting for the bone to heal around the Teeth Implants.  The final crown cannot be placed until this has happened.  

First a full assessment needs to be done by our Implantologist, some moulds taken of your mouth and some x-rays.  Providing there is enough bone then  Dental Implants can be placed.  Placement takes approximately an hour depending on how many Implants are placed.  The more Implants placed the longer it takes.  Then we wait 3-4 months for the bone to heal around the Teeth Implants.  This is called osseointegration.  Then we place a post into the Implant and take an impression for the crown.  The crown is placed 2 weeks later.

Dental Implants are used to hold Dental Bridges too.  When many teeth are missing a few Teeth Implants can be placed and a Dental Bridge attached.  You don’t have to have an Implant for every tooth missing.  

Teeth Implants are also used to secure Cosmetic Dentures.  People who have a full set of dentures know how much they move around.  The Implants act like a clip that holds the Dentures in place making eating and speaking a lot easier!  The only thing is new dentures will need to be made.  Special impressions will be taken once the Dental Implants have healed and clips attached.  It takes a little longer than the Implant-Post-Crown method as it takes a few more weeks to fabricate the dentures.  

Of course how you care for the Dental Implants after placement also effects how long treatment takes.  A dressing is placed around the Implant to protect it for the first few weeks then gentle brushing around the area is needed.  If you smoke it is advisable to stop as its halts the healing process.  Patients who have refused to stop smoking have seen their implants literally fall out!
