Who should perform teeth implants?

clock December 18, 2009 03:35 by author mike

Teeth implant as an option is considered by individuals who have lost their natural teeth due to a variety of reasons like mishaps, injuries, genetic reasons or diseases. In such a situation, the concerned individual should visit the dentist who specializes in cosmetic dentistry and discuss the various procedures with him so as to make a decision. The dentist on his part is supposed to inform the patient about the advantages and disadvantages of the various procedures and subject the patient to a complete dental examination prior to the procedure. When the patient expresses an interest in teeth implants the entire procedure of dental implants is explained to him. This entails cutting and lifting up of the gum area in which the teeth implant is supposed to be placed and drilling a small hole in the specified area. Then the teeth implant which is made of titanium is fitted tightly in the socket and the gum is stitched on top of it. A normal teeth implant takes three to eight months to heal and integrate with the jawbone but this time period depends upon the individual healing capacity of each individual. [More]

What causes teeth discoloration?

clock December 17, 2009 06:51 by author mike

As an individual grows older there are certain changes which take place in the body and one of these changes is the discoloration of teeth. Since it is human nature to find a solution for every problem, the occurrence of teeth discoloration led to the discovery of various techniques of teeth whitening.
Since this process was concerned with the treatment of the dental set-up these techniques were classified under the branch of cosmetic dentistry and could be performed at a certified dental practice.

There are many reasons, due to which an individual may face discoloration of teeth like staining, thickness of the enamel and the whiteness of the base. Tooth discoloration which occurs due to staining may be caused by extrinsic or intrinsic factors both of which cause a distinct change in color of the teeth. In the field of cosmetic dentistry, it is widely assumed that while the extrinsic staining is caused due to the consumption of certain foodstuffs like coffee, wine, tobacco and tea the intrinsic staining is caused by factors such as ageing, trauma, medications or excessive use of fluoride. The science of cosmetic dentistry goes on to extrapolate that staining may also be caused if the thickness of enamel gradually wears out with the passage of time or if the base color of the teeth is not as white as it should be due to inherent factors.
