One of the largest growth in the Dental industry is Cosmetic Dentistry procedures. T.V. shows and media press have increased public awareness about cosmetic dentistry.

Who has Cosmetic Dentistry?

People who wish to improve their smile whether it’s the colour, shape or size of the teeth.  Also lip or gum imbalances can be corrected to get an improved aesthetic result.

Cosmetic dentistry or smile makeover involves one or more dental procedures to achieve the aesthetic smile you want.  Some people may want a ‘Hollywood smile’ with perfect white straight veneers.  Other people may wish natural looking veneers or just having their metal fillings replaced to white fillings.  Whatever you do not like about your smile, cosmetic dentistry can help you achieve your desired result.

Uses of Cosmetic Dentistry:

  • Chipped, broken teeth can be fixed using cosmetic bonding, porcelain veneers or porcelain crowns.
  • Missing teeth can be replaced by dental implants, dental bridge or a cosmetic denture.
  • Unsightly gaps between your teeth can be corrected to give perfect teeth by porcelain veneers or orthodontics.
  • Crooked teeth can be straightened by orthodontics or porcelain veneers.
  • Gummy smiles or uneven gum lengths can be corrected by gum recontouring.
  • Discoloured teeth can be whitened with professional teeth whitening.
  • If you do not like wrinkles or have deep folds or lines around your face, Botox or dermal filler treatments can be used to give you a younger appearance.

There are many areas where cosmetic dentistry can help you.  If you wish to find out more about cosmetic dentistry contact Perfect Smile Spa, one of London’s leading cosmetic dental spa’s on 01708 442114 or email care@perfectsmilespa.co.uk

Important Facts About Teeth Whitening

Teeth Whitening

There are 2 types of teeth whitening:

1.      Laser ‘Zoom’ Teeth Whitening

2.      Home Teeth Whitening

 Zoom Teeth Whitening

This is done in office.  A procedure that takes about 1 hour, where teeth whitening gel is placed on the teeth and the special ‘zoom’ laser light is placed near your teeth to catalyse the reaction so that is much quicker and you have lovely white teeth in an hour!

Home Teeth Whitening

Special accurate impressions are taken of your teeth and custom trays are made into which teeth whitening gel is placed and worn for about one hour a day.  Usually within 2 weeks you have a nice white smile.

To achieve the best teeth whitening result a combination of laser and home whitening is recommended.

Is teeth whitening safe?

Teeth whitening has been researched for over 20 years and there are no adverse reactions to it.  Some people may experience transient sensitivity while they are teeth whitening but this is only temporary and goes back to normal.

Can anyone have teeth whitening?

Anyone can have teeth whitening unless you are pregnant or have all dental crowns, or veneers as porcelain will not whiten with teeth whitening.

Is there anything to be aware of when teeth whitening?

The most important factor when considering teeth whitening is to make sure you go to a qualified cosmetic dentist  who can appropriately supervise your teeth whitening procedure.  Avoid beauty salon teeth whitening if there is no dentist there.

Answers to common dental implants questions

clock May 21, 2008 01:43 by author mike
  • What are Dental Implants?
A dental implant is a titanium replacement for a tooth root that is placed in the jawbone.  On the top of these dental implants are placed either crowns, bridges or dentures depending on what’s appropriate for your mouth.
  • Dental Implant Process
After a thorough evaluation including xrays, CT scan and planning from study models, dental implants are placed into the jawbone under local anaesthetic.  The dental implant is left to heal so that the bone can integrate with the dental implant.  After healing the dental implant can be used to support a crown, bridge or denture.
  • Are dental implants safe and how long do they last?
Dental implant treatment has a success rate more than 90% over a 10 year period.  In fact titanium, the metal used is used widely for hip replacements.
  • Can anyone have dental implants?
After the initial assessment, x-rays and CT scan if necessary, the dentist will be able to tell you if you can have dental implants.  There are only a minority of cases where dental implants cannot be placed e.g. if not sufficient bone – however this is where bone graft procedure can be used and then dental implants placed.
  • What are the alternatives to Dental Implants?
Dental Bridges or cosmetic dentures can also be used to replace teeth if you do not wish to have dental implants.
