Are Certain Foods Good For Your Teeth?

Raw foods that are rich in fibre are very good for the teeth. Raw foods massage the gums and clean the teeth at the same time. Raw foods also promote salivation which neutralises the acid in the mouth. Good raw foods to eat include:

• Beetroot

• Apples

• Pears

• Watermelon

• Radish

• Carrot

• Cucumber

• Sprouts or beans

However if you have been eating citrus foods you should rinse your mouth out afterwards with water.

Eating raw food after a meal will help to clean your teeth:

• Nuts – a good source of calcium, magnesium and phosphate. The best type of nuts are peanuts, cashews, almonds and walnuts.

• Calcium rich foods – milk, cheese and yoghurt

• Sugar – food eaten between meals should not contain sugar. Eat all sweet, sugary food in one go and don’t spread them out throughout the day.

• Meat – after eating meat it is advisable to clean between the teeth as any debris may rot and cause decay if left for too long.

• Drinks – sugary and fizzy drinks are highly acidic and can erode the surface of the teeth and cause cavities.

• Don’t brush your teeth straight after having fizzy drinks as the acid will have softened the enamel and you are likely to cause even more damage.

Dental implants take longer to finish due to healing time and are generally the most expensive option in cosmetic dentistry for replacing missing teeth.

Good snack are:

• Smoothies

• Milk

• Yoghurt

• Cheese

• Soup
